January H&H

A good turn out for the first race of the year. Cold but no ice and not too windy. Having done well last year the handicapper nobbled my start time so I finished well down and didn't see much of those that did well. Jo won on what I think was her first outing for a long time with John Smith only 2 seconds behind. There were some other close finishes and I see that, on elapsed time, there was only 1 second difference between Jo and Andy - so there could be a bit of rivalry building up in the Mayland houshold. A few people had to portage but otherwise I don't think there were any major incidents.
Next race is Feb 11th

Hare and Hounds, December results and end of year summary

A good turn out this month despite the cold. No fast times but as we had to battle into a strong head wind all the way home this is not surprising. Neil had some rudder problems and lots of us had to portage past a barge which was trying to turn in a winding hole that was only 3ft longer than his boat!

Hare and Hounds November results

Lots of leaves on the canal, but they didn't slow Mark Finch down as he came in 1st, setting a new pb.
Sarah had a fight with a barge, narrowlt getting through the bridge in time while Adrian was left to receive an earful of abuse from an irate bargee.

Hare and Hounds October Results

A low turn out this month gave those of us there a chance to score valuable low points. There were lots of barges about and it's sometimes a fine judgement whether to portage or not. Adrian and I arrived together at a bridge as boat was coming through. Adrian waited and I portaged but he got the advantage. The most notable performance was by Andrew Millest. Despite moaning vociferously about being promoted he turned in another pb (and gets his handicap increased).

With two races to go the fight for the title is hotting up. One good result from some of those outside the top three could easily change everything. Robin still has two chances of scoring the perfect total of three. The next race is scheduled for Nov 5th - so watch out for fireworks!

Hare and Hound September results

No wonder Robin wanted to see September's results. He must have been spurred into action by Dylan's time in August- His response was the first sub-30minutes recorded for our course. Lots of other pb's were also set. JK.

Liffey

Some Liffey feedback from the Woodhead's. Dylan and I did the Liffey this weekend, and after a hard race with no swims and no mistakes we finished a respectable 9th overall, it was a great weekend. There was good representation from many clubs, leeds canoe club had about 15 members, participating. Maybe one year MADCC could go as a team and have a memorable weekend.
Enjoy. Gordon

Winter training in Canada

A canoeing friend of mine from Canada sent me these pics of their winter training sessions at their club in Toronto, Quite organised hey, What about aproching Bollington pool to do the same. I was also sent a film clip, which Mike is trying to upload for me, quite interesting to see, Carrie training in the pool and she has an awsome style. Enjoy, Gordon

[Mike Corrin] Here is the clip (in Quicktime). (Q: shouldn't her head be looking forward and not rotating?)
